Applications are invited for the post of Post Graduate & undergraduate clinical teaching fellow with an interest in General Medicine, ITU & Theatres or General Surgery
The post offers the opportunity to commence As soon as possible for one year that could be extended up to 2 years following a one year review. A shorter period can also be agreed to fit in with the Specialist training posts.
The post has been developed to improve delivery of training to medical students and foundation doctors on placements at Croydon University Hospital. Therefore the post holder is expected to play a major role in the training of medical students from St Georges and GKT Medical Schools and Foundation Trainees. The postholder is accepted to play significant role in the support of simulation for medical students and foundation doctors by working with the simulation fellows and the Director of medical Education (DME) in the simulation centre.
The post holder will teach and co-ordinate students and foundation doctors across all the acute services to ensure that they can achieve their learning objectives. There will be close liaison with the Consultants responsible for the students and other Clinical Teaching Fellows in the Trust to ensure coordination of undergraduate clinical teaching. There is also a commitment to the teaching and training of Foundation trainees and core speciality trainees.
At least 70% of the post holder’s time will be spent on teaching activities in the acute specialties with the opportunity to focus on a chosen sub specialty. The remainder of the week will be used either for clinical work to develop the individual’s career with an opportunity to pursue two sessions per week in a clinical area of their choice (subject to negotiation). A half day per week will be protected for personal professional development part of this should be used to further develop teaching skills. The post holder is expected to register for the Certificate Course in Medical Teaching which takes about a session per week. If an extended contract is offered it is anticipated that the post-holder will attain a certificate in medical teaching from St.George’s Hospital Medical School.
Regular update meetings will be held with the undergraduate sub-dean and the DME.
The successful candidate will have attained or be working towards a higher Postgraduate examination and at least two years of substantive previous experience at ST2 level within an NHS environment. An interest in medical education is essential.
