Based in Strasbourg, France, the Council of Europe brings together 47 member states to protect and promote human rights, democracy and the rule of law throughout Europe and beyond.You will be crucial to our mission as you supervise ourmember states’ implementation of judgments by the European Court of Human Rightswith responsibility for a complex and stimulating caseload.

Enjoying considerable autonomy, you will identify measures required to execute judgments within agreed timescales, maintaining correspondence with Governments, applicants and other interested parties, and participate in meetings of the Committee of Ministers to follow up decisions taken. At the same time, you will prepare detailed documentation to support decision-making, including legal assessments, memoranda, draft resolutions and proposed outcomes, as well as summaries, studies and reports for broader audiences.

This will demand a postgraduate qualification in Law plus sound legal or judicial experience at a national or international level. In particular, you will require good knowledge of the legal system of at least one of the following member states: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Georgia, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Moldova, Montenegro, the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia, Poland, Serbia, Slovenia, Ukraine or the Russian Federation. This should be backed by full fluency in your native language, plus a firm grasp of English and French, giving you everything you need to express your conclusions clearly and concisely. Finally, you will be adept at problem solving, with an analytical mindset, a team-oriented approach and meticulous attention to detail – and you will be passionate about human rights across Europe.
