DEADLINE

Description

The Development & Outreach Department of Human Rights Watch (“HRW”) is seeking an intern for its Scandinavia team in the Stockholm office. Ideally, the candidate will intern five days per week starting in late August/early September 2017 until mid-January 2018.

Internships are unpaid. Students are often able to arrange academic credit, as HRW internships often offer direct exposure to the workings of an international human rights organisation, close supervision by HRW staff, interaction with other Stockholm based and international organisations and opportunities to attend lectures, trainings and special events relating to human rights. Students should check with their individual academic institutions for requirements.

Responsibilities

The intern will focus on HRW’s work in Stockholm. The intern will learn and take part in our advocacy, media, development (fundraising) and outreach events. The intern will be trained on how to conduct human rights advocacy, promote HRW policy, conduct targeted outreach, draft correspondence, coordinate and plan events, conduct general research and assist with prospect research.

This internship is best suited for those individuals interested in international human rights issues, strategic influencing of decision-makers, arranging events and gaining experience within an international non-profit organisation. Interns will learn about the organisation’s priority human rights issues and gain knowledge of advocacy strategies, outreach, media, fundraising, event management and information tracking.

Qualifications

The successful applicant should be exceptionally detail-oriented, well organized and self-motivated with good time management and prioritization skills. Applicants should be reliable and have a strong interest in international human rights. The ideal candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills in Swedish and English and a demonstrated interest in fundraising and human rights. Internet research skills and familiarity with MS Office programs, such as Word and Excel, are required. Data entry experience and familiarity with Raiser's Edge or other databases are strongly preferred. The applicant should have completed at least three years of university studies or equivalent.
